New Facility

The Milwaukee Curling Association is working to build a new, state-of-the-art curling center in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin.  It will become the new home of the Milwaukee Curling Club while also providing a valuable resource to the Mequon-Thiensville community.  Construction of this facility will allow the Curling Club to attract new curlers, preserve long-time traditions, and retain its honored status as the oldest club in the nation.  The center would also provide year-round meeting space for local civic organizations.

The Association is seeking an appropriate site for the new curling facility; one that would offer public access and greater visibility.  The Association is currently investigating the potential of expanding upon the Reuter Pavilion in Rotary Park, located in Mequon, Wisconsin.

Features

During the curling season (October - March), the Milwaukee Curling Club would utilize most of the space for curling, while the newly enhanced Reuter Pavilion could be utilized by community groups for meetings or small events.  During the curling off-season (April - September), the entire facility could be rented or leased for large banquets, weddings, or community events.  The new facility would offer the following features:

  • Enhanced meeting space for the community, accommodating up to 160 people
  • Space for five sheets of curling ice or large events, accommodating up to 850 people
  • Viewing area
  • Locker rooms1floorplan-icon.gif
  • Restaurant/bar
  • Curling museum
  • Expanded restroom facilities

The Cost

The cost to upgrade the current Reuter Pavilion and add 24,340 sq. feet of additional space will be approximately $3 million.

Project Expansion

After engaging in conversations with various local groups and stakeholders, the Milwaukee Curling Association is considering expanding this project and creating a cultural and recreational center that would also address the needs of performing arts groups.  The expanded facility would include all of the features listed above, plus: an outdoor performance stage with graded viewing area; an indoor raised performance stage; private dressing rooms; and enhanced acoustics.  The cost to add the additional space and features is significant, raising the total project costs to somewhere between $6 - $9 million, depending on the extent to which high-tech equipment and acoustical sound systems are added to the performance area.  The Association is conducting a feasibility study between July and September 2007 to determine whether or not to proceed with the proposed project expansion.
